Q:Hi, M. I just found something interesting. I don't know if you've already know about it. I visited KIPRIS just yesterday (haven't been a long time after your post regarding TVXQ name in your blog). So, I found out that Cassiopeia is right now under application for code 41, as 동방신기Official Global Fanclub CassiopEia, submitted by 2011.07.26. Under the detail information, there is about 395 for Supplementary of Designated Goods. I tried to transGoogle, but some I can't figure out, The clear ones..

are the last 4, regarding the fanclub. Interesting is, Shinsegi Patent Law Firm, who’s been agent name for SM, is the applicant name this time. I don’t know what it means. The Cassie logo is the one we see from the Staff Diary with the boys wishes, except TVXQ! Official Fanclub become Official Global Fanclub. Does it mean Cassie is reaching to global, not only in Korea? Please share if you know something about this ^^

Forgot to tell this. ELF (suju) is a also under application, same date, same applicat name, but for Super Junior Official Fanclub. The word global really makes me curious =)

Hi Anon, thanks for the info… I went to KIPRIS last night and found that under the same applicant number, all the fanclubs are being registered for trademark (from Traxian to Jumping BoA).

For me, it’s clear that SM is preparing something, their website had the ‘international fanclub’ button for a while now. With their idols now reaching worldwide, it would make sense to trademark those fanclub names to get things official, definitely will make it easier to sell goods and organize events…

As to why the applicant is Shinsegi Law Firm, I don’t know if there’s a change to how you have to apply for trademark, but the thing that matter is who those trademarks will be registered to. I guess Shinsegi is doing the application on behalf of SM Entertainment.

Although Cassiopeia will be registered as ‘Global Fanclub’, I am under the impression that treademark law is very country specific. Of course there must be some sort of international agreement on how things will be run, but I think establishing the names of the fanclubs officially in Korea will definitely be a start in the right direction to an integrated international fanclub ^___^

PS. Of course, everything depends on how well things will be run… managing an international fanclub is not as easy as discussing it on paper DX
